Meet Abhinaya: A Journey From Discomfort to Design
For Abhinaya, fashion has always been more than just clothes — it’s a powerful blend of style, comfort, and purpose. Her journey began at just 14 years old, when she first realized how uncomfortable synthetic fabrics made her feel. She vividly remembers rushing home to change into something breathable after every outing — sometimes even carrying a change of clothes just to get through the day.
That discomfort sparked a powerful question:
“Why can’t stylish clothes feel as good as they look?”
And a bigger realization: most cotton garments were limited to traditional wear like kurtis and blouses, leaving a major gap in the market for breathable, stylish Western clothing made with cotton.
Although life took her down a different path and she pursued a B.Com degree and worked in various roles like teaching, operations, and HR, Abhinaya’s love for fashion design never faded. With limited access to quality fashion education, with determination and grit, she taught herself pattern making, design, fabrics, and experimenting through trial and error.
Eventually, she brought her vision to life through Lilies – A Label by Abee, a brand rooted in 100% cotton clothing, Western silhouettes, and body-friendly tailoring built to offer modern fashion that’s breathable, versatile, and designed for Indian women.
